Minnie Caines Bio
All her life, Minnie has loved animals and the countryside. When she finally had more time, and grandchildren started to arrive, the inspiration to create story books for young readers was realised. Minnie’s stories feature farm animals and their adventures in real-life situations.
Born and raised in Dorset, with a brief spell living in North Yorkshire, there was plenty of countryside to explore. Minnie’s grandfather used to drive his grandchildren around Dorset and Devon on occasional weekends and school holiday trips. Visits could be either the countryside or to the beach, often finding a pony in a field that needed a gentle pat or some rock pools to explore. This set the scene for a method of relaxation and inspiration often required during a busy working life.
As part of her career as a tutor in an agricultural college, Minnie had enjoyed working with teenagers helping them develop both as young people and as future workers. Along the way there were many trials and tribulations relating to confidence, skills, attitude and friendships but these could be overcome with a listening ear, guidance and support. Meeting some of these students in later years was a delight; hearing their stories of achievement and enjoyment of life.
Living in North Yorkshire, Minnie worked on a farm rearing Guernsey calves, looking after chickens and riding her Irish horse Paddy, before meeting her second husband back in Dorset. His stories of farm life in America and Minnie’s involvement with horses became the inspiration for the ‘Adventure of’ series featuring Pip, Dilys, Horas and Enid.
